Estate Administration
Administering an estate can be a confusing and complex process of negotiating the probate courts in order to give effect to the terms of a will and, at times, a trust created in a will, so that the deceased’s assets pass to those persons and institutions as set forth in the will.

Our attorneys and support staff have over 30 years of experience with the judicial system in probating large and small estates so that the wishes of the deceased will be fulfilled in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

When probate court cannot be avoided, we will explain the process and guide you through it so that you understand what will happen and how that will affect you and your family.  Your level of comfort with procedures that can seem confusing and inefficient is our most important consideration.

Our attorneys and staff can assist you and your family in handling the following matters:

  • Probating an estate when the deceased left assets in his or her name alone, to insure that they pass to the intended recipients at the least tax cost and in the most efficient manner.
  • Marshalling and valuing assets, filing an inventory of those assets with the probate court and assisting in transferring those assets to the intended beneficiaries.
  • Preparing and filing federal and state estate tax returns when required.
  • Advising as to income tax returns required and assisting your accountant in preparing those returns.
  • Dealing with beneficiaries, providing them with information, and insuring that the assets coming to them are handled efficiently.
  • Preparing and filing accountings with the court and distributing accountings to the beneficiaries, as required.
  • Advising executors as to other legal and tax issues.
